At last! A filter basket manufactured to the same standards as a Pullman Tamper! VST baskets are precision-manufactured, highly consistent in diameter and, like a Pullman Tamper, come with their own unique serial number! VST baskets also come with a data sheet showing a number of technical parameters pertaining to that specific basket.
These baskets have been getting rave reviews since hitting the market! A Pullman Tamper matched to a VST basket is the ultimate combination!
Please note that while every VST basket comes with a set of factory-measured parameters, the basket diameter is NOT measured by VST. However this is somewhere that Things Coffee's unique service stands out! Experience shows that while basket size within a batch are normally quite consistent, variations can occur between batches. To get around this problem, we keep on file the measurements of a sample of baskets from each and every batch, meaning we can easily determine the size of your basket at a later date to match it to a top quality Pullman tamper! This can only be done with baskets purchased through Things Coffee as we are the only people who record this information!
This is a 20g basket. Note that your portafilter requires a 'h' dimension in the image below of at least 25.4mm to accept this basket.
Baskets Ain't Baskets
Not all baskets are created equal. VST baskets are the only ones which guarantee the accuracy of the hole pattern. Other baskets, including popular name-brand baskets like the one pictured here, often have a wide variation in hole size and shape, with some holes not even punched at all! This is NORMAL for all baskets except VST baskets. If you want a basket with all the holes punched through and even, choose a VST basket (if suitable for your machine).
Recommended Accessories
For best results we recommend the following with your VST basket:
- a replacement portafilter spring if your existing baskets are ridged, to ensure the ridgeless basket is firmly secured in your portafilter.
- a flat-based Pullman tamper machined to fit your VST basket
- a set of Scottie Callaghan's Dosing Tools to ensure precise and repeatable dosing no matter what grind or bean type you use - particularly important as VST baskets are designed to work in a narrow dosage range.
